Three Benefits of Slowing Down in a Fast World

I don’t eat fast food. As much as possible, I try to avoid fast fashion. The next big challenge for me is to get rid of fast fulfillment choices like Amazon. My desire to live more deeply in connection with the Universe drives these decisions.

The pressure to speed up is constant. Social media sites I visit advertise deals that will expire if I don’t act right now. It’s Black Friday weekend here in the United States, and even that phrase – Black Friday – assumes that I will mourn the loss of that great deal on a new TV or BMW, or … well, whatever consumer choices are in vogue this year. Act now. Don’t wait. Hurry … this deal expires at midnight.

Resist the urge. Breathe. Rest. Slow down. Slowing down in a fast-paced world can be beneficial in many ways. Here are three benefits I have observed from a more mindful outlook on life.

  1. When we slow down, we can appreciate the little things in life. Those moments that may seem insignificant can be meaningful and impactful when given our full attention. From watching a beautiful sunset to having meaningful conversations with friends, slowing down allows us to see the beauty in everyday moments.
  2. You can rejuvenate yourself mentally and physically by taking a break, even for just a few minutes. Taking time to disconnect from the hustle and bustle of everyday life can help us clear our minds and refocus on the tasks at hand.
  3. Slowing down reconnects you to the reality of the Universe. This world is ancient, and humans have been around for a long time. So as we resist the urge to hurry, hustle, and make everything happen now, we remind ourselves that we are part of a much larger story of this planet and humanity.

What are you doing to slow down in this fast-paced world?
